Tedial integrates new traffic system at Telson.

Telson, the leading Spanish television facilities company which transmits European Disney channels from its base in Madrid, has used content and production flow process management from Tedial for four years. Tedial has now updated the installation to support a new traffic system.

The installation at Telson uses all the major elements of the Tedial asset management and workflow system: the Ficus Broadcast Process Manager, MPM Media Process Manager, Tarsys asset management and AST Hierarchical Storage Manager. Together they give Disney and Telson a single point of contact for all content and business workflows, interfacing seamlessly with third party software applications as required.

The traffic system previously in use at Telson was designed for use with video tape based systems and had little flexibility to be used in a multi-format, multi-platform environment. To give them the flexibility they need in a digital production environment, Telson has now installed Vision from Harris to provide traffic functionality.

Maintaining a single system managing all content and processes was vital, and so Tedial developed the necessary software updates to integrate Vision. The new implementation adds new functionality and gives users more flexibility to define and design workflows, such as media exchange, format flipping and trans-wrapping, and content production.

From the beginning of the collaboration between Telson and Tedial in our modernisation of television production and broadcast, the Tedial technology has shown itself to readily integrate all the elements of our systems, creating a completely tapeless environment,” says Agapito Otero, technical manager at Telson. “The flexibility, and the new functionality which Telson has added, have allowed us to solve new challenges in a very short time, resulting in a significant reduction in our operational costs.”

Tedial MPM provides the corporate level integration for all applications, automating both media and metadata flows, linking different areas of production and delivery including ingest, news, programme production, web delivery, archive and broadcast. Ficus broadcast process management allows workflows to be pre-defined, optimising resources and tasks.

Vision is integrated into this environment through the metadata integration broker of MPM. This ensures that any change to data in any system is immediately reflected in every place where it is needed, in Tedial and Vision systems. The resulting system is already being used to create two entirely new business processes – commercials and presentation elements – as well as opening up the system to new versions and HD content.

With the implementation of Ficus broadcast process management and its good integration with Vision traffic and the rest of the system, we have a complete solution which results in an improvement in our processes, an increase in productivity and the most efficient use of our production resources,” says Miguel Ángel García, Disney Channels operations manager.
