Venezuela’s National Telecommunications Commission expands Tedial relationship.
Tedial, the leading provider of Media Asset Management (MAM), Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) and Business Process Management (BPM) software has announced a major sale to Venezuela’s National Telecommunications Commission – Conatel - further highlighting its strong commitment to the region. This installation will allow the industry regulator to add channels in new locations across the country as well as digitise its entire historical archive.
A Tedial customer since 2008, Conatel is expanding its Tarsys MAM solution by installing four monitoring systems in the states of Zulia, Tachira, Lara and Nueva Esparta. These installations will enable Conatel to record transmissions of 32 new channels 24/7 in key cities outside of Caracas. Recorded material will then be stored on disk and a data-tape library archive controlled by Tedial’s AST HSM solution. Thanks to remote services supplied by Tarsys, Conatel’s experts in its headquarters in Caracas can examine the recordings from each location and select material to be sent to the central Conatel archive over a data network and stored indefinitely.
Aura Marina Reina, Technical Director of Conatel explains, “The new monitoring network provides Conatel with the ability to analyse the latest programmes broadcast across a very large part of Venezuela using advanced technology from Tedial.”
To enable Conatel to digitise its historical archive Tedial will also supply its ingest manager application Capture, which features advanced digitisation and cataloguing tools, and is integrated into the Tarsys system. Conatel’s aim is to digitise all the content in its main site in Caracas by the end of this year.
For live transmission recordings all new sites will be provided with the Capture Live product that allows preview and live cataloguing of recordings before they are ingested into the archive fulfilling Conatel’s requirements for immediate access to information.
The Tarsys system, initially installed in 2008, allows digital recording of the transmissions of all 13 television and 96 radios channels in Caracas. Prior to the commissioning of the Tarsys system, Conatel had been making recordings in VHS creating an historic archive of more than 90,000 hours of material.
Rafael Dubois, Tedial’s Sales Director says, “We are delighted to make this announcement. Tarsys has completely transformed Conatel’s working practices in the last three years delivering a state-of-the-art system that safeguards its assets for future use and allows it to expand its television and radio monitoring work to ensure regulatory standards are always complied.”
