AVID-TEDIAL
AVID-TEDIAL, a successful collaboration.
Since Avid and TEDIAL began to collaborate in 2002 high performance solutions for digital television have been implemented. Nowadays, due to this work in common, there are many TV channels that produce and broadcast contents in a completely “tapeless” environment.
The TEDIAL solution for the management of digital contents (MAM) is based in TARSYS, a software system that provides functionalities for the efficient management of audiovisual contents and other products such as AST, INDEXER, MEDIA PROCESS MANAGER (MPM) and FICUS. The combination of these products allows the implementation of a powerful Business Process Management System (BPM) in broadcast facilities with heterogeneous systems and applications from different vendors.
AST is an automatic storage manager that handles disc arrays and tape libraries, applies intelligent policies for hierarchical storage management and allows the partial recovering of media archives in the most common formats: MXF, QT, AVI, etc.). INDEXER is a set of libraries with functions for encoding, wrapping, normalization of media archives to standards, multi-format edition, corporative quality control and automatic indexing of media through story board, content detection, video and audio signature, etc. MPM, an enterprise application integration system (EAI), automates the media flows between the different areas of the installation (video library, ingest, broadcast, automation, post/production, traffic, web and archive). Finally, FICUS automates the content production flows by generating work orders automatically. Typical flow phases include: insertion, quality control, norm verification, voice-dubbing, voiceover, subtitling, post-production, handling of versions and material cleaning.
One of the key points in the TEDIAL and AVID products integration (iNews, Unity, Interplay, Mediastream) is the degree of efficiency achieved in the flows of media and metadata, from side to side of the production line. Working with Avid´s API, TEDIAL has created a workflow that allows the transfer of text from iNews (MOS gateway) to TARSYS (the MAM) while video and audio contents, retrieved from Unity/Interplay, are analyzed, indexed and sent to TARSYS, generating automatically a Proxy copy. The retrieval of media to AVID Newsroom/Postproduction is carried out by a simple drag&drop operation between the TARSYS client and the Avid Editor (News Cutter, Adrenaline).
TV Channels with Avid (iNews and Unity) and TEDIAL integrated systems are:
Castilla La Mancha Televisión, Disney Channel Spain, Barcelona TV, Canal 7 (Murcia), Canal 9 (Comunidad Valenciana), Aragón Televisión, Lancelot TV, Televisa Sport (iNews y Vortex) TEUVE, La Sexta Televisión-Madrid and La Sexta Televisión-Barcelona.
TV Channels with Avid (iNews and Interplay) and TEDIAL integrated systems are:
Canal Sur-Almería, Canal Sur-Cadiz, Canal Sur-Córdoba, Canal Sur-Granada, Canal Sur-Huelva, Canal Sur-Jaén, Canal Sur-Málaga, Canal Sur-Sevilla, ESPN Sur (Argentina) , Telelugo, Telesur (Venezuela) and Televisa Espectáculos (TV Shows).
Common effort:
A successful implementation of the “tapeless” model in television results from the conjunction of three essential elements in production, documentation and content broadcasting: Avid, TEDIAL and the technical and human resources of the TV channel. All of them share the same purpose to get to a “tapeless” work environment, where media files, metadata and work orders flow through the network between the different systems in the broadcast facilities.
