Product Overview

Tarsys is a Media Asset Management (MAM) solution. Harnessing the power of Oracle technology, Tarsys provides a multimedia database supporting multiple formats and versions of assets, and enabling storage across a distributed archive architecture combining data-tape robotic libraries and disk repositories.
Tarsys works seamlessly with AST, Tedial’s HSM software. Together Tarsys and AST ensure that all content instances are seen by the users as a single asset regardless of where they are stored. AST’s efficient data-tape control combined with Tarsys intelligent media management render the concept of ‘near-online’ archive obsolete: operators can treat content on data-tape as ‘online’ because Tarsys is workflow-aware and ensures material is available on disk as required by each workflow.
In accordance with our commitment to openness, Tarsys can also operate without AST and integrate instead with data-mover systems such as Front Porch or Masstech when customers already have them.
Tarsys is designed to work using low-resolution proxies whenever possible to minimise network usage. Content is catalogued on ingest and a low-resolution proxy copy and storyboard are automatically generated. Tedial transcoders generate frame-accurate proxies in H264 or WM formats supporting as many audio tracks as the original high-resolution file has. Our proxies also support reviewing subtitles and keep the original aspect ratio. Equally, when a high-res version is required only relevant segments are retrieved from data-tape, again maximising productivity.
Archive searches are easier with Tedial’s advanced thesaurus, which also integrates directly with third-party and proprietary systems, ensuring that all digital asset management and content production workflows can be seamlessly served.
Non-video as well as video files can be supported as primary assets. Graphics, image files, documents, spreadsheets, pdfs etc. are stored in the archive and recorded in the database with thumbnails and with as many metadata fields as required – thus providing a MAM solution that reaches beyond the traditional media realm.
Rights Management tools are included in the Tarsys system. Implementation of rights management ensures media is used according to the facility’s business rules and provides the means to protect against media misuse, monitor media usage, trigger alarms and implement retention policies. Tarsys also offers comprehensive tools for monitoring and auditing system usage and user activity as well as for generating reports based on metadata.
Tarsys features object-relational database management tools, which allow the creation of dedicated database models – typically used for special events or the different working areas of an organisation. Administrators or ‘super users’ can create cataloguing folders with specialised metadata fields, thesaurus and multi-language dictionaries. Our customers no longer have to impose ‘one-size-fits-all’ data-model to their organisations.
Tarsys database fully complies with the CMIS standard (Content Management Interoperability Services from the prestigious OASIS standards body which has Microsoft, SAP, Oracle and IBM among their members) which guarantees a vendor-neutral way of accessing content from application to application while preserving metadata. This is very important for the future, to ensure the system’s media is portable and readily interchangeable to non-broadcast services such as telephony, internet, marketing applications, etc.
