Does improving content localization help reduce costs?

Converting (or versioning) media to meet international distribution requirements is essential to monetizing content and is most profitable when it can be achieved using automated orchestration. Traditionally content localization workflows involve several tasks to generate subtitle insertions and audio tracks in specific languages, and sometimes even require nearline editing to make new versions.

Yet for most territories the reality is that the localization of workflows is a quite straight-forward, repeatable process that doesn’t require all the features provided by a full video editing tool. Additionally, where the output is an IMF package, the workflow must include a tool that can assemble different components as a complete or supplemental IMF package, as traditional editor tools used for localization tasks don’t have the capability to export a compliant IMF deliverable.

Tedial has a solution to this issue with its award-winning Evolution MAM, which provides an excellent, reliable content localization workflow that only relies on an external editing tool to generate the few, specific fragments that can’t be changed through a transcode assembly operation. Tedial’s IMF Markup Tool manages the assembly points and editing of the localized version on a frame accurate low-resolution proxy, and the workflow exports high resolution IMF packages natively. Once the proxies are completed they can either be archived as logical versions, saving on storage space, or exported as delivered assets.

The key features and benefits for the Tedial Evolution content localization workflow include:

  • Visibility: The system tracks of all the processes and activities for the on-going localization procedure
  • Efficiency: Low-resolution proxy editing, assembly and version validation, requiring no movement of high resolution media files
  • Interoperability: The system seamlessly supports full integration of NLE support systems needed for the fragment localization as part of the workflow
  • Cost reduction: In addition to lowering storage costs by saving logical versions, restricting the use of NLE software only when required to generate the specific pieces of content that need advanced editing features saves in cycle time and overall system bandwidth

Tedial Evolution’s localization workflow is constructed with BPM building blocks based on IT standards. This includes 18 years’ experience with customer versioning activities that meet unique client requirements and special use cases such as “on the fly” needs of OTT providers. This added flexibility allows Tedial to quickly adjust processes and customize the orchestration to best support business logic and rules. An improved content localization workflow leads to measurable reductions in costs and open doors to increased monetization.
