Software Defined Storage for the Hybrid Cloud
smartWork I AST Streamlining network media supply chain
smartWork I AST
Software-defined multi-tier storage management services for multi-site hybrid cloud and daily processing of open/live and closed media files.
A flexible and scalable network media supply chain requires efficient management of multi-tier distributed storage in a hybrid cloud environment and an aggregation service for the multiple media files belonging to each asset.
smartWork I AST is the media storage management system that provides a common workspace, making it easier for applications to go to the media and not having to send the media to the applications, which is key. To do this, the software-defined storage adds a layer of media abstraction through a unique identifier for each media file, making workflows independent of physical locations (on-premises or in the cloud), which provides an additional layer of security.
smartWork I AST is structured around a diverse array of microservices tailored to meet your specific storage needs. These include services for multi-tier and multi-site management, streaming, technical metadata, meta-objects for small file aggregation, and more. Leveraging the robust foundations of Hierarchical Storage Management systems and an object-based storage approach, the platform offers an adaptable and scalable architecture to support the evolving requirements of a networked media supply chain where open/live and closed media files are daily processed in multiple locations.

Cloud Native
Kubernetes infrastructure

AST Hybrid Cloud
(Private and public clouds) managed as a single IT architecture

Media Abstraction Layer
So that users don’t need to be media or storage location aware

Multi-tenancy
Multi-tenancy, multi-site, multi-tier

Secure Media
Secure media storage and transactions

Partial restore and soft parting

Business Intelligence
Built into AST (storage access, performance management, system status and health)

Monitoring
Daily monitoring
The challenges
- The same content is often duplicated in multiple locations and may be replicated across geographically-separated sites
- Media files are getting larger and efficient management of the storage space is critical to control costs
- The cost control and efficiency is specially critical in Cloud storage

Interoperability
Allow to place assets in any infrastructure or applications to freely operate upon those assets from any other infrastructure

Hybrid, native and agnostic cloud solution
Interactions with the cloud internally use the Kubernetes infrastructure so the deployment on our interface support cloud native operations. AST can either manage those operations in the local cloud or the cloud storage simultaneously

Scalability
Its architecture is based on nodes that can scale up according to the storage management needs and requirements

Media abstraction capabilities
AST can manage multiple storage locations making them totally transparent to the user no matter neither the storage tier nor the technology used. Using a logical storage group management that the admin previously establish

Multi-tier agnostic
Transparently manage online storage, cloud, and deep archive with complex algorithms based on customer-tailored business rules

Multi-site
Virtualizes file locations to enable multi-site operation, cloud workflows and hybrid scenarios offering an “augmented perception” of their physical location. It seamlessly orchestrates content over several sites
